By John Coyne

Was this an accident or murder in Ethiopia during the dark days of the Creeping Coup?

Even four decades later, the answer still matters.

This novel–Long Ago and Far Away– opens in Westchester, New York, in 2008, and through a series of flashbacks that take place in Ethiopia, Spain, New York, Washington, and elsewhere as it returns again and again to Ethiopia, it tells the story of Parker Bishop and Irish McCann, lovers driven apart by the death of their friend and the blame they cast on each other and themselves. Their careers, marriages, families, divorces, and changes in fortune are dramatized in the novel. The main plot focuses on the present day, when the lovers circle back to find each other, and then set out to confront the man who knows the truth about what happened to their friend.

John Coyne who lived in Addis Ababa from 1962-1967 is an American novelist who know the country, people, and the U.S. Government, all who play a part in this novel. He also knows how to tell a great story. He’s done it many, many times. He does it again with Long Ago and Far Away.
